PENNY-WISE POUND-FOOLISH

The literal meaning of the expression appears to suggest that if somebody is showing wisdom in matters of small importance but foolishness in matters of larger importance, he's being penny-wise and pound-foolish. If somebody shows care when little money is involved, but acts stupid when large sum is involved, they are simply being penny-wise and pound-foolish. But I wish to add something to it. I believe the expression holds true for a variety of other values and aspects, such as honesty and kindness. Penny-Honest Pound-Cunning I'm sure almost everyone of us can attest to having known someone who is honest on minute degrees, but turned out to be crook when larger and more valuable things were at stake. For instance, if a coin or a handkerchief slips out of someone's pocket, people tend to return it. At the same time, if someone drops a note of higher denomination (say five thousand rupees), many people may have second thoughts about being nice/honest and about not pocke...
